Quote For Homeowners Insurance | Saving money on your home’s energy bill is just what you need to fill your pockets with a little extra green this spring! Here are a few tips that will make your home an energy efficient “powerhouse.”

Save water:
Here’s a staggering fact - the average American uses about 100 gallons of water per day, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. You can significantly reduce this amount by simply remembering to turn off faucets whenever possible. Try not to leave the sink running when brushing your teeth, and cut down a bit on shower time in the mornings. Being aware of how much water you are using can substantially decrease your energy consumption.

Turn off the lights:
This may be pretty self-explanatory, but it’s a fundamental – and, often, overlooked way to save energy. When exiting a room, be sure to switch the lights off. Unplugging appliances you aren’t using also helps reduce energy usage. For example, if you have finished blow drying your hair, unplug it! Using energy efficient (LED lights) can help lower your energy bill as well.

Buy energy efficient appliances:
You may have to invest a bit in environmental appliances, but it’s worth it in the end. We suggest starting by replacing your dishwasher or washer and dryer – some of the biggest wallet drains in your home – for the best results. You’ll see big savings over time if you are able to purchase a few of the energy-efficient appliances that you use most frequently.

Keep the temperature steady:
Try to avoid making drastic changes to the heat or the air conditioning. Keeping your home at a consistent temperature helps lower your utility bill.

Manage your sprinklers:
Here in Florida, almost everyone has a sprinkler system. Little do you know, you may be overspending on your system! Be sure that you have timers on your sprinklers in order to minimize water waste. Another option is to use a barrel to catch rainwater. With this method all you have to do is attach your hose to the spigot at the bottom of the barrel. Free water!

While you’re finding new ways to make your home more efficient and affordable, it might be time to spruce up your insurance policy as well. Be sure that you’re taking advantage of all the discounts available to you and only paying for the amount of coverage you need. “Spring” into action and talk to your insurance agent today!
