Home Insurance Quote | Florida homeowner's insurance companies consider many variables when reviewing an application for insurance. If you own a home it's important to understand these variables so you can make sure the insurance company has all the correct information needed to make their decision. Many insurance companies utilize claim history when making their decision and this is where the C.L.U.E.® report comes into play.
WHAT IS A C.L.U.E.® REPORT?
C.L.U.E.® (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) is a database run by LexisNexis® which contains up to seven years of personal-auto and personal-property claims history. Insurance companies that subscribe to the database can access this claim information and use it to help determine whether or not they want to take on a risk. The following information is included for each claim: date of loss, loss type, and amount paid along with general information such as policy number, claim number and insurance company name.
KNOW YOUR CLAIM HISTORY.
If you're a homeowner you have the right to see your C.L.U.E.® report. In fact, it's probably a good idea to order a copy of your C.L.U.E.® report once a year to make sure the information is accurate. Much like a credit report, if the information on your C.L.U.E.® report is wrong this could have negative consequences. It could also be a sign that your identity may have been stolen.
You can order a FREE copy of your C.L.U.E.® report HERE. I decided to order my own C.L.U.E.® report to see how easy the process was. It was very simple. You just have to set up an account and validate your identity. My report was sent to the e-mail address I setup the account with within a few minutes. I'm happy to report everything looked in order!
FIND OUT WHAT TYPE OF CLAIMS HAVE BEEN FILED ON A HOME YOU INTEND TO PURCHASE.
A traditional C.L.U.E.® report is linked to a person and to a home. So you might consider asking the current owner of a home you plan to purchase to share a copy of their C.L.U.E.® report. Then you can see what types of claims they may have submitted on the home. LexisNexis also offers home sellers the ability to purchase a “C.L.U.E Home Seller's Disclosure Report” which provides a five-year history for a given address without divulging any personal information about the owner as the traditional C.L.U.E.® report would. Many homeowners make this report a requirement before they move forward with a home purchase.
If a home you're planning to purchase has had major damage, like mold or fire, you'll want to know about it and fully understand what repairs were completed on the damaged areas. Or, if the current owners have any unresolved claims on the home you'll want to understand how the insurance company will handle the claim during the transition.
UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF SHARING ACCURATE INFORMATION ON YOUR INSURANCE APPLICATION.
It's important to submit accurate information when you apply for insurance. Your policy could be cancelled if you deliberately provide false information on your application. Insurance companies can access various reports, like the C.L.U.E.® report, to validate the claim information you submit. If you're confused about what information should be included on your application your insurance agent should be able to help you.
